Discussions > Mackerel, Squid, Butterfish Ongoings from the MAFMC
Greetings All,
The NMFS-organized Industry-Funded Monitoring FMAT/PDT is scheduled to meet on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 9 AM to continue work on the omnibus amendment that could establish provisions for industry-funded monitoring. Information about the Amendment can be found on the following page: http://www.mafmc.org/actions/observer-funding-omnibus. This meeting was originally scheduled to be in-person but will now be conducted via webinar, and will be accessible via this link: http://mafmc.adobeconnect.com/observerfunding/. Melissa Hooper @ NMFS’ Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office (formerly called NERO) (melissa.hooper@noaa.gov) is the lead if you have any questions.
MSB Amendment 14’s final rule published Feb 24: http://www.nero.noaa.gov/regs/#el60256. Herring’s Am5 final rule can be found at the same location.
Given historical timelines, I expect that we will see a final rule for 2014 MSB specifications in 1-2 weeks.
Applications for the Council’s River Herring/Shad Advisory Panel are due Feb 28: http://www.mafmc.org/newsfeed/2014/pr14-02.
At the February Council meeting, for Framework 9, the Council recommended additional accountability measures for non-exempted slippages, while preserving the current slippage exemptions (safety, mechanical failure, excessive dogfish). See the summary and additional materials at the February meeting webpage for more details: http://www.mafmc.org/briefing/february-2014.
